Freedom Town Column Week of Oct 5th
Freedom welcomes its newest little resident, Russell Winston Morrow. Baby Russell was born on the fall equinox, September 22 and weighed 7 lbs, 8 oz. Parents Winston and Leah, grandparents Mr. And Mrs. Ed Hobbie, Deb and Tim Brown, and Tom Morrow are all either past or current Freedom residents. Congratulations to all!
The Freedom Job Corps, which is made up of 5th and 6th graders, was created over 15 years ago as a way for the youth of Freedom to make connections with the rest of the community. It is made up of kids who are interested in doing small odd jobs such as housecleaning, stacking wood, raking leaves and shoveling snow. The members of our club are expected to be polite, responsible workers who will do a satisfactory job. People interested in hiring one or more of the members should contact our advisor, Pat Hatfield at school at 539-2077.
A Carroll County Bipartisan Candidates Night will be held on Tuesday, October 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 at the K.A. Brett School, Route 113, Tamworth. Participants will be as follows: N.H. House of Representatives, District 3 Republicans -Mark McConkey, Don McGarity and John Roberts, Democrats -Rep. Howard Cunningham and Rep. Ginger Heard (incumbents) and Susan Wiley, candidate, N. H. Senate - Democrat Bud Martin, Republican Bill Denley Terry Leavitt of the Conway Daily Sun will moderate the discussion. Candidates will present statements and the audience will ask questions. The Tamworth Republican Committee will provide refreshments after the event which is sponsored by Carroll County Citizens. This is a great chance to come meet and talk with your local candidates.
Freedom has a champion! Kristina DeWitt competed at the New Hampshire Hunter and Equestrian finals on Sept. 19, 20, & 21 at Cheshire Fairgrounds, in Swanzey, N.H. Kristina is now the 2008 Granite State Pony Medal Champion, the 2008 Hunter Pleasure Champion, and the 2008 Open Hunter Classic Champion Reserve. She placed 5th in the Stone Pony Junior Equitation Classic and 9th in the Open Equitation Under 15. Kristina also competed Sunday Sept. 28th in the Maine Equitation Medal Finals, at Pineland Farms Equestrian Center, New Gloucester, Maine. Despite the pouring rain, Kristina placed 2nd in the Advanced Technology Judged Equitation Warm-up, 4th in the Maine Pony Equitation Final and 5th in the Pony Equitation and 11th in Children's Equitation. Kristina attributes her success to D-Bars Ilusion, aka "Henri", the pony that she competes with, that was raised and trained by her trainer, Sherry Donabedian, owner of Burnt Meadow Stables in Freedom. Kristina is a 9th grader at KHS, and the daughter of Mike and Ingrid DeWitt.
Mary Lu Dow will soon be beginning her exercise class at the Freedom Town Hall once again. Mary Lu teaches aerobics, nutrition and weight training and has had a terrific turn out in the past. Classes are $10.00 each which is an excellent price for a personal trainer and will begin on Friday, October 31st at 9 a.m. Join in the fun with your neighbors and get fit!
It is time for the annual Halloween candy collection. Let's help Freedom Village this Halloween. Beginning October 1st through Halloween night, candy donations will be accepted at the Freedom Library during regular hours. The candy will be distributed among the village residents as well as the library to take care of all those ghosts and goblins on Halloween night.
A note from the gang at the Freedom School. Join parents and townsfolk as they gather in the village to watch the annual Halloween parade on Friday, October 31st at 1:45. It's awfully cute, you won't want to miss it!
