Congrats to Miranda Cloutier who made the FES honor roll. Somehow she was accidentally left off the first list but her efforts should not go unnoticed. Lots of hard working kids at Freedom El!
Congrats also go to our own Elizabeth Rhymer for her performance in "The Vagina Monologues" last weekend. She had plenty of support as loads of Freedom folks came to see her perform.
There is a new Avon representative in town. Natasha Yeaton is now selling Avon and would be happy to have new customers. Her contact info is: 539-6015 and wesfan83@yahoo.com.
Students at Freedom Elementary are collecting Box Tops for Education in addition to Stoneyfield Yogurt cups, candy bar wrappers, cookie packages, potato chip bags, old cell phones, empty glue containers, butter tubs and Lunchable covers. These items are recycled to Terracycle and our PTA then receives a check. Your items can be dropped off at FES or given to an FES student to deliver.
Don't forget to join the Bead Lady at the Town Hall on Sunday, Feb. 28 from 1-4 p.m. for beading. Follow this with adult movie watchers at the library for "Rabbit Proof Fence" at 4 p.m. Free movie and popcorn.
Remember that the Town Meeting on Tuesday, March 9 is being held at Freedom Elementary School this year instead of at the Town Hall. Be sure to bring a canned item to donate for the food pantry-imagine what a difference that would make if everyone attending Town Meeting was kind enough to donate an item!

Fun History of Freedom "Snow Roller" from the Freedom Heritage Commission:
Recently the Heritage Commission met for the tenth time since being established at the March 2009 Town meeting. The group continues to be aggressive on researching and writing Inventory reports of buildings and places in Freedom. Some of the members stayed after the meeting to work on sorting out information for the "1827 Church". As part of this discussion one life long Freedom resident told a story about how the residents dealt with deep snow on the roads before there were snowplows. When the new snow was deep, horses were not interested in traveling anywhere, including town roads. A farm wagon with runners (similar to the one used for winter touring at King Pine today) would be loaded with logs (for weight) and hooked up to a team of oxen. The sled would be driven up and down the roads several times to establish a trail and pack down snow for the animals to walk on. Next, the snow roller would be hitched to a team of horses and driven over the same roads to produce a solid roadway that would support people, animals and vehicles until the "Spring Thaw" This sequence of events was called "breaking the road". Snow rollers were constructed of large diameter wood or metal wheels spaced 6' or more apart by a surface of wood planks. One of the metal wheels is on display outside the Freedom Historical Society barn. As for the Freedom roller, we think it is on display at a historical society building in New York State.
All interested parents and community members are invited to attend the all-day kindergarten forum on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 6:30 pm at the KA Brett School. The objective of the forum is to allow Tamworth residents the opportunity to discuss the proposed implementation of an all day kindergarten program currently included in the proposed 2011-2012 school budget. The school board hopes the forum enables voters to gather information and make an informed decision about this recommendation when attending the Annual School District Meeting on March 3.
