It's time for the Community Club to start back up again after the summer months. The September meeting of Community Club is Sept. 8 at the Freedom Town Hall at 6 p.m. Peter and Peggy Nichols are in charge of the meal. If you remember, this is our annual chicken barbeque that the committee puts on. The speaker for the evening is Gigi Wizawaty. Gigi is a past president of the Luethi-Peterson camp on Moulton Road and she will be giving us a history of the camp and explain what they do throughout the world for the children. I am sure that there are many who don't know much about this camp that has been in Freedom for 50 years so this should be a very informative evening. For more information, call Dean Robertson at 539-8617.
Freedomites are invited to come celebrate the creativity of Gary Hektner and Dean Balch at an art show at the Thomson home at on Village Road on Saturday, September 4 from 2-5 p.m. Please RSVP to Laura at lsthomson@yahoo.com. This is a nice opportunity for those of you who missed Gary's show at the library or who would like to see more of Gary's work.
The Freedom Historical Society is pleased to present Jonathan Hively who will speak about the history of the Cog Railroad on Mount Washington and the people who ran it over the years. Mr. Hively, who has lived in the area for 40 years and worked at the Cog from 1974-1987, will be relating some personal reminiscences of his time there during the steam era. He will also bring some items related to the railroad to share with the audience. This interesting program will be presented at the Town Hall on Elm Street on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information please call 301-1107.
If you do not yet have your raffle ticket signed off by the Historical Society, the Art Gallery, Patrick's Bed and Breakfast and the Freedom Village Store, don't wait. The drawing for the gift basket will be on Labor Day. There are goodies and gift certificates from all four making the basket worth $100.00. The raffle box is located at the FVS right next to the basket of goodies. Blank raffle tickets are inside the brochures which were designed by Bonnie Burroughs and can be found at all four venues. Why did these businesses and organizations get together to create this raffle and brochure? They did it because they want more people to visit and see what Freedom has. So don't let them down, fill that raffle box up by visiting again.
Another summer is over and school is back in session so watch out for kids waiting for the bus by the side of the road and buses with flashing stop signs.
